What is Smart Smile?

Smart Smile is a 5th generation vision correction surgery system that uses ATOS from SCHWIND,
a German manufacturer known for its AMARIS series. It detaches the required volume of corneal stromal and removes it by making a small incision.

  • point 1.

Prevents glare and preserves as much residual cornea as possible

The 5th generation Smart Smile has the advantage of safely improving vision and being resistant to external impacts approaching the eye at a 70-degree angle that can keep the cornea's rigidness intact in accordance with the direction the eye blinks. Furthermore, it no longer needs a minimum lenticular thickness required in conventional vision correction surgery, which allows for greater preservation of remaining cornea.

    8x faster laser irradiation speed

Smart Smile has a laser irradiation speed of 4Mhz, which is 8 times faster than laser equipment from other competitors, thereby reducing irradiation time and heat damage to the cornea while enhancing safety.

    Produces smooth lenticules

    4th generation_high thermal energy

  • point 3.

Reduces corneal damage with low thermal energy

Like glasses and lenses, the smoother the corneal surface, the better the quality of your vision. Smart Smile uses low laser energy - as little as 75nJ - to cut the cornea more smoothly than before, which damages the cornea less and helps preserve the cornea better.

7-dimensional eye tracking that corrects eye diffraction

Equipped with a sophisticated 7-dimensional eye tracking function, Smart Smile compensates for minute eye tremors and movements during surgery, enabling more accurate and safer surgery than conventional LASIK surgery. This improves safety and delivers much better results. Unrivaled eye tracking technology allows for more complete vision correction. It corrects ocular diffractions, prevents corneal clouding, and reduces corneal expansion during surgery.

  • point 5.

    More precise astigmatism correction

Ocular cyclotorsion means the axis of astigmatism is different when we are standing and lying down. It is essential for patients with astigmatism to correct their “ocular cyclotorsion” where the axis of astigmatism measured while sitting before testing is different from the axis of astigmatism when lying down during surgery. Smart Smile can use Sirius to correct high-order aberrations of the cornea together with ATOS, enabling far more precise astigmatism correction using eye tracking technology and by correcting ocular cyclotorsion.

  • point 6.

“Flap-less surgery” to prevent dry eye syndrome

Eliminating the need to create a flap reduces the incidence of dry eye syndrome. The surgical method of incising the corneal surface and creating a flap can cause dry eyes and other side effects after vision correction surgery. Unlike regular LASIK, Smart Smile is a flap-less procedure and therefore leads to fewer side effects and shortens the recovery period.
